Emacs shell mode vs the real shell


In Emacs shell mode and similar shell-like modes,

  • C-c . to repeat the last argument of the last command (instead of M-. or ESC .)
  • C-c C-u to clear current command (instead of C-u)
  • M-p and M-n to skim through history (instead of C-n and C-p)
  • M-r to search history (instead of C-r)
  • M-> to move cursor to the prompt
